The Mahabharata is a voluminous Sanskrit epic which describes the conflict between the atheistic Kauravas and the Pandavas, who were pure devotees of Krishna. This culminated in a war to establish the Pandavas and remove the Kauravas. Before the battle began, Lord Krishna spoke the Bhagavad-gita to Arjuna, his beloved devotee, who was one of the five Pandava brothers. The Bhagavad-gita, or “Song of God,” is the primary scripture for Krishna devotees. It contains the essence of all spiritual knowledge.
